Hello all,
I had been using a Matrox MX02 at the office to drive an external
confidence monitor. It died some time back, and I need to replace both
the one at the office, and buy something for use in my home edit suite.
What I liked about the MX02 was it's ability to simulate blue gun output
to assist in getting my exposure right, and it had some other nice
calibration tools to help me get closer to a good response. I am not
foolish enough to think that just any monitor or TV will provide
critical color. I don't have that need. I am doing in-house corporate
videos, and the occasional short film or event. I just need it to look
"good".
I looked at a couple of the AJA IO boxes, and quite frankly, I am not
prepared to spend $1500-$2000 on this. I've seen the Matrox boxes are
closer to $500 these days, and some of the Blackmagic boxes are similar
or a bit cheaper. Are any of you using these boxes or what would you
suggestion be?
A few caveats. I need to drive an HDMI monitor, but I'd like HD-SDI out
if possible. I'd like the box to be external since I need to work on my
laptop as well as my iMac. I have Thunderbolt at home, but not at the
office. So if one box has both USB and Thunderbolt that would be
ideal. And do any of these offer any color/luma calibration at all
these days?
Thanks,
Perrone Ford
