From what I remember - there isn't enough bandwidth on Thunderbolt for the Nitris DX card.
It's why all of the new Mac Pro cylinders are not compatible with Nitris DX.

Hit my first snag. The HP directions call for placing the Thunderbolt card in slot 5 only (Z820) which as luck would have it is the only slot I can put my Nitris DX card in. Only PCIE-Gen 2 is supported for Nitris DX, and that's slot 5. :-(
