Can you stick the card for the Nirtis DX into an external enclosure and connect it to the Tbolt?

Hit my first snag. The HP directions call for placing the Thunderbolt card in slot 5 only (Z820) which as luck would have it is the only slot I can put my Nitris DX card in. Only PCIE-Gen 2 is supported for Nitris DX, and that's slot 5. :-(
