Hi Dave,
This is a really good question. The answer is that if you want to use Script Editing in Media Composer you do not need ScriptSync. Nexidia is our partner who provides the phonetic indexing engine that allows you to match script to speech. We created ScripSync and PhraseFind with Nexidia. Boris has a different deal than Nexidia. The key differnece is that Boris makes applications and Nexidia provides technology that works in the background.
Partnerships are a very difficult thing to manage. There is a constant software maintainence angle that needs constant monitoring. What if a partner gets sold or goes out of business? In the end compatibility for customers who want to move forward on new software is the thing that hurts our users the most. I'm not a huge fan of providing partner software in Avid software. I much prefer our new approach with the MediaCentral platform that allows partners to access Media Composer in different way. It's better for our partners, Avid and most importantly our customers, who will now get the ultimate in chose and access. I completely get the "its easy" comment. But is not that simple. Frankly, Avid has to find a way to intergrate this techology and make money at this, and Nexidia has to value their IP and get back that value. We are still having discussions on how we can move forward.
Dave

hi dave, why is scriptsync tied to this nexidia thing? it's been around for a long time and used in almost all scripted shows and features and doesn't rely on the phonetic engine. also to your knowledge, has boris run into the same issue on licensing from nexidia? seems like it should not be so complicated and especially if people use the add on feature, easy to justify.

So David, is that the final answer? Negotiations are over and phrase find won't work after v7?
Or are you still working away. If it won't work past v7, can we rapt least get a version of avid v8 that will run alongside v7 without a separate disk drive?
Thanks again for all your help and transparency...eli
