Re: [Avid-L2] [OT] Mavericks Madness

A thumb drive with a write protect switch?  I've never seen one, have I lived too sheltered a life?  I never even thought to look for one yet I still have a red record button in one of my pants pockets for the inevitable day I will be mastering to a 3/4" tape.

could just be a switch on the drive itself that says 'write protect' as that is exactly how it would show up if it was set

DOH!!
That was it Mark.
I forgot that switch was even on there!

And thanks to Mark I saved a couple of bucks Mike ;)
(but you're right, there's a point at which it's not worth troubleshooting something like that for too long).

A 16 gig drive us about 40 bucks it's time to buy a new one - even spending an hour trying to fix it is already costing too much.

Hi gang,

I have a thumb drive that is formatted as
Mac OS Extended.

All worked with this little guy (for years) until . . .

About a week ago I used it to shuttle some QT files between my laptop (10.8.5)
and a client's iMac (Mavericks; not sure what build).

Now when I mount the thumb drive on my laptop, the "everyone" permissions
are set to "Read Only." I can unlock it, but I can *not* open the little pull-down
menu to select Read/Write (see attached pic or at this link: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=30k64vb&s=8#.U2v-W61dXuU/).

I copied the files off this drive with the thought of reformatting it.
Doh! . . . I can't do that either.

Any thoughts on solving this annoyance, besides just buying a new thumb drive?

Cheers,

Benjamin
