Solution: Re: [Avid-L2] Way OT: Actual problem with Mavericks and GeForce GT 120 card

So this is stupid.  Earlier, when I tried a different monitor, I tried one of the same model, and the problem persisted.  So this time I went and swapped out the monitors with different models, and presto, it works fine now.  I have no idea what the deal is but now I am moving on.  So

Bad monitor model - Dell 2408WFP
Good monitor model - Dell U2410

10.9.1 is the official supported OS. I think 10.9.2 does work just not official until the upcoming 7.0.4.

yeah, downloaded that one, but when I try to run it I get an error saying that 10.9.2 is required and I need to be on 10.9.1 for Media Composer, right?

Have you tried the NVidia Mavericks drivers?

no, because people are working.  But the card works fine under Lion.  It's only when I boot to Mavericks.

Have you tried putting this problematic card in one of the other 3 'good' systems?

So, I'm guessing that this is going to get buried by all the NAB noise, but I have to try.

So, I'm upgrading 4 Avid Media Composer workstations.  All 4 are same hardware.

MacPro early 2009, (MacPro4,1)
Quad-Core Intel
2.93GHz
GeForce GT 120

Moving them all from Lion with MC v6.x to Mavericks 10.9.1 and MC v7.0.3.  Using brand new hard drives for each system, so fresh installs of everything.

Three of the install/upgrades went fine.  But one of the systems is having problems with the GeForce GT 120 card.  On boot it only will screen to a single monitor on the DVI port.  The Mini DisplayPort is inactive.  Sometimes power cycling the monitor will get it to finally see it, but not always.  Reboots always go back to it being inactive.  I did permissions repair while boot into the recovery partition.  I wiped the drive and started over from scratch.  And the problem persists.  I've checked the system info and the driver is loading.  And it all specs out the same as the other 3 systems that are working.  I've tried a different Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.  A different DVI cable.  A different monitor.  No joy.  All they firmware on all four system is the same.

And as a final gotcha, if I put the old boot drive in and boot into Lion it works perfect.  So it's not the hardware.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jay
