I agree. I don't use Normalize much anymore. More trouble than it's worth. However, using normalize on a bunch of stock music tracks can come in handy to get the tracks in the ballpark if you're dropping them in the Timeline to see if they work with the cut.


BTW, (only slightly OT) I recommend the Video Toolshed LoudnessChange app to check if the mix is broadcast-legal under the new rules, which don't put the same limits on peak levels (at least for TV spots in the U.S.) Europe has similar standards.

Even if the cut is strictly for offline review, Normalize often creates more work than it saves. A compressor/limiter might be a better choice, but too much will make the mix hard to legalize.
