Why would you state this? I run the Media Composer, Pro Tools and Sibelius (and ISIS) business units. I can tell you there is a lot of work going on for the "small guy". Subscription (while not a feature, I get that), was directed to open Media Composer to give customers more options for choice for those who need or want to purchase via a monthly payment, as low as $50/mo. Those tend to be "small" customers. We wouldn't commit the time and resources if it wasn't important.
Knowing exactly how much is being dedicated to Media Composer and Pro Tools for the small guys, I can tell you it's a lot. Media Composer and Pro Tools are central applications to the Avid workflow. They just can't be put on shelf for safekeeping and forgotten. I keep hearing this small vs big thing but you should read into some of Terry's comments. Small and Big all have similar needs and problems. Yes, some of the workflows are slightly different, but we try to accommodate all customers when implementing a feature. But Avid IS unique. We have a very diverse customer base with slightly different needs. The company's vision was to look at all of our customers problems and identify where we needed to focus short and long term. That's all of our customers, musicians, broadcasters, post production for audio and video, notation and learning…everybody was evaluated for pain points. The platform is designed exactly to include every potential customer and partner. NAB was a big deal for us here at Avid, the employees have never been more engaged and excited. I can tell you being here for 6 years and around for a lot longer than that, it's a pretty exciting time to be at Avid. The proof is in the pudding, I get that. But I can tell you that we have been working quickly for a year on the new plan and we showed a lot of items at NAB we a result of that work, and it's just beginning.

It's pretty obvious that Avid is going to focus even more on the big players. If they get a few small guys and small shops along the way, well that's an added benefit. But my feeling is that Avid has given up on the smaller shops. Big iron = potential (and needed) profit. Louie's a finance guy, not an editor. Makes perfect sense for where the company is at right now. And Terry, you predicted this several years ago.
Terry/Job - you guys have something to do with the ACA correct (hopefully they did not make you pay the for that privilege)? Perhaps you can ask the grand-poobahs what this all means for the smaller guy going forward (I bet I can predict what the corporate answer will be).
