Depending on the length of the show, I'd also suggest the SubCap route (despite its horrible kerning). SubCap only works with Avid DS or EBU N19 subtitles, so you could
a) ask the client if he is able to provide a file in one of these formats
b) try to find some conversion software (good luck)
c) manually edit the srt file to make it compatible (don't laugh; this might actually be a sensible approach)

d) manually copy and paste the titles after yelling some expletives at random people and/or equipment
