I had amazing results with spectramate. Now Im working with luma but the tool that worked for me was boris linear luma mixed with shadow and spill corrector (all boris in stack).
I never met a chroma key I didn't hate. Not the plug in just chroma key. I know it's a necessary evil and my favorite experience was the meridian symphony Ultimatte with dedicated chip. Now BCC with multifilters seems like my go to for difficult keys. Of course sending it to graphics department is my favorite plug in. Those kats can work wonders. I liken chroma keys to colonoscopys they always seem to be a pain in the tush. That's probably from years of people coming in with this great chroma key they shot on 3/4 inch color under and they are always disappointed when they lit it wrong, shot it wrong and pick the wrong wardrobe. Otherwise known as my standard chromakey experience. Of course there are those that eat these challenges for breakfast but I prefer having a pop tart while the graphics department makes magic.
