I've only used the last version before X came out (3.5.3). I created my own preset for H.264 for BD-R, but I think there are some defaults. The H.264 encoder for BD has an 'automatic' encoding setting that generally works well for anything you throw at it.

You're probably right that my TV wasn't too crazy about true 24 - I pressed the "input info" button and it said it was showing a 50hz source. Or it was my BD player that wasn't too crazy about the format.

I'll give Compressor a try. Do you use the latest version? Does it have presets for the right type of mpeg4 required by BD? The edit machine I'm using has the FCS 7 suite, so I guess it doesnt have the latest presets since it dates from the days of the (short) war between BD and HD-DVD.
