Re: [Avid-L2] Avid's impression with system integrators?

I took (or misunderstood) Bob Zelin's advice and went with 10 gigE over fiber.  You can get lots of new fiber cables cheaply on eBay.

Has anyone tried these new, much cheaper 10 gigE cards?  I've been using ATTO, but they aren't cheap.

I'd probably set up more servers with these prices.

When you say:

I assume you mean Edit Share will be on board with Cat 6 10Gb ethernet just like they already support 10Gb fibre.

After a little googling I found that the Cat6 I just ran in my home will support 10Gb ethernet over copper because all my runs are under 55 meters (180 feet).  Longer runs require Cat6A which is a beefier version and will handle bundled situations avoiding alien crosstalk.  Depending on the cross talk in my home the runs need to be kept to 121 ft which they are.  Whew glad I won't have to bring the crew back to rerun 6A.
