If I understood the original problem correctly, I've had the same issue, and found a solution. When I was doing moves that involved both position and scale changes, the eases only applied to the the position change, and not to the scale change.
That was because I assumed the Velocity Parameter — where you can choose the "Ease In" and "Ease Out" options — would apply eases to both. It seems to apply only to position.
To ease scale changes, you have to click out the advanced keyframe graph and change the interpolation of the keyframes to Bezier. If you do that, the move won't look so silly anymore.
But I appreciate all the complaints about Pan&Zoom the post elicited. I couldn't agree more....
