KIND OF DEPENDS on what format you're trying to read. My iMac 27" was working fine until I started using AVCHD recorded at 50MBPS (Lumix GH3). I tried upping the RAM to 16GB, and it improved slightly, but that's still not doing it. I'm working off of a USB 3 drive. Next is higher RAM, and possibly a thunderbolt dock….
