Re: [Avid-L2] Segmentation fault MC 5.5.3.7 to 7.0.3 when opening a bin

hi seth! hi stu!

thanks to both of you for that! seth, the avid tech i spoke with this morning did not know that one. i knew there was a key command but couldn't remember it in the heat of the moment. the trend now regarding diagnosis is pointing towards some oddball file types that could be the culprit, but like many of these kind of operations it's hard to get it pinned down. what i did was: moved my media (camera source files - xdcam - and avid media) from an external Rourke RAID hooked via FibreJet to my direct SAS connected Avid VideoRAID and exported a couple of files from Photo-JPEG 25fps files to ProRes 23.98 files. so far everyone is happy. stu, you might have had an idea there!
cheers

Hi Bruce,

Hold down the option key to open the project with all bins closed (Alt on Windows).

Warmly on a cold day,
Seth

this is biting me now as well. Avid 7.0.3 on OSX 10.8.5. an imported graphic file is the culprit - it's the bin that contains my imports that causes the crash as soon as it opens. even if i don't open that bin, when i attempt to open a sequence that contains one of  the file(s) in that bin the Avid crashes instantly. i've already rebuilt the project once - opening the bins in a new project and reimporting the graphics - and it seemed to fix it, but after an overnight when i opened that new project this morning it crashed instantly. on to v3….
cheers

p.s. - is there a key command that opens a project with all bins closed?

If copies from the Attic don't work....try creating a brand new project and opening the bins via File menu, Open Bin...and see if that works.....

Bins will not open with media offline. As soon as Avid attempts to open the bin, the segmentation fault happens.

Can you open the bins and projects without any media attached? If the bins open ok with media offline, then what kind of media are you working with?

I could not find this in the forums, so I reach out to you, sage ones!

I have a project that works great and opens just fine from my old system drive in 5.5.3.7 OS X 10.6.8

However, when I try to open the bins from that project in 7.0.3 in OS X 10.8.5 connected to Terrablock v6.1, I get segmentation fault errors and Avid hard crashes.

I've cleared all the renders from my main sequence. I've deleted and rebuilt the media databases. I've created a new project with only that sequence in it, and still get the fault.

Any ideas?

MK
