we agree again here, and in all fairness, most of the survivors mimicked the brilliant ideas of their predecessors, but managed to do so at a lower price and performance point

I dont dispute the market reality... Ive bought a lot more digibetas in
my time than D1s. But I do miss the aspirational excitement of NABs of
the 80s/90s.
Sabre, Axial, Kscope, Flame, A84, Spirit there was innovation and lots
of it every year. Since the hardware vanished and we got into the 1.01
software upgrade cycles... something has been lost.
