The logs don't show an error after reboot - I suppose I could open the screen as soon as it boots, and 'watch that space' to see if anything pops up as it's locking up. This doesn't seem to be media-composer related, since it happens no matter what application we run - in fact, it will even lock up if you don't log in- so it may be a service or something that's locking it up.
I'm going to try restoring the OS over the weekend - maybe even updating to 10.9.1
Fortunately we have additional bays to share the workload, and this particular machine was mostly used as an AE station.
