Some people claim it will work when doing a speedchange with QTchange first.
(I've brought back the speedchange in the latest version especially for this.)
However, my own experience is that it varies on versions (have not done a thorough test though.)
IOW, YMMV, try for yourself.

I stripped the sound off some .MVI files and tried to ignoreqtrate true to take in 25 frame to 23.98 without skips but no luck. Exporting .tiff sequences in QT Pro and importing to Avid worked.
