Re: [Avid-L2] Avid's biggest challenges

Matador, Media Illusion and Elastic Reality were the 3 Avid products, all now defunct, that ran on SGI platform.
We still own one license ea. And the O2 workstation.

cheers,

It wasn't Maestro. The SGI Box was Fusion/Illusion I think. We had one... I swear it was on an SGI. I used it for effects work - rig removal and what at the time was nothing more than glorified Animattes.

The death of that box was that it had a MAX of an hour of SD uncompressed storage, so you couldn't conform a full SD show in a single pass (with handles).

But we could be talking of two different things... I don't recall any Avid product being called Maestro.

As a flame guy at the time there was no way a serious online vfx guy would use a pc - we had refrigerator sized sgi onyxs, so the fx market didn't want it. Avid tried to compete with a proposed sgi tool called Maestro (? Only saw it at an nab private showing) but never launched.
