The biggest challenge is still perceived cost. I asked a bunch of young guys what they edit in recently not one used avid as it's 'too expensive'.
Fcpx is couple of hundred bucks, premiere is free with photoshop, lightworks is free, davinci resolve is free, avid relatively is astronomically priced as is smoke.
I laugh as compared to playing a million bucks in 1992 for one flame suite or a hundred grand for an avid suite all the tools today are free but this is the way kids today think.
Disclaimer again anyone who can still drink coke and eat potato chips without thinking first about their heart is a kid to me. Damn kids should just get off my lawn.
