Sounds like the bins are missing the .avb extension. I've had this bouncing between older and newer Mac OS systems and Avid versions. The newer OS's and Avid versions need to have the .avb extension on the bin file name. Older systems didn't require this. Adding to the confusion is you can usually open the bin once but when you close it the bin disappears from the project wind. At the finder level add the .avb extension and is should appear again in the project windos.
