>>Why not sell the Super MC version for $2500/$3000. In other words, tie needed R&D expenses to incremental profits.

I'm sorry I didn't make it clear. After removing functions to create "MC Lite" at $300 to $500 to grab new customers -- that would leave V7 at $1000. I was thinking that when V8 arrives -- with whatever features Avid can include -- MC's price would increase to $1500/$2000. That sounds crazy awful, but if this increase on the installed-base (sorry) stabilized Avid, I would think it might be accepted. The installed base has the most to lose if only Premiere and FCP X are left standing.
Lastly, I suspect that V8 will not have all the new features folks want. There are so many new formats and options, I can't see how Avid will add code to support them all.The wish/want list is now too long. Perhaps, ACA is partly an effort to find-out what the biggest $$$ customers must have.
Bottom-line, stopping the cash bleeding (and getting bugs out of V7) seems to me more important than getting new functions. A stable Avid is critical to everybody.
