I wouldn't say it was "ignorant" James. We have done and still do a ton of FCP finishing. So we have seen a lot of ways to screw things up. It's not a knock against FCP editors.
Avid forces you to work a certain way, which happens to make the finishing part much smoother. FCP allows you to work anyway you want which makes it easier for a beginning editor to get into, but can leave the back end processes painful.
