I can't say why, but time after time I have to work through very simple lost media issues for people on FCP. Oh, that VO was on a thumbdrive, doesn't the software copy that over someplace?
Yesterday I spent cutting a concert for a band who swore something was wrong with their XDCam EX footage because they couldn't get it to work in FCP 7- the camera somehow edited it all in pieces. Took me all of 10 minutes to load it into Avid. They just didn't understand the workflow, and no amount of explaining was working. It just HAD to be something wrong with my camera that they rented. They had FCP, so they were editors. (and you can substitute Premiere in there too) I get that A LOT. Maybe it's the small market, but it's more likely the way FCP has been marketed to mass market end users.
If someone tells me they edit on Avid, it's a pretty sure bet that I can assume at least a good baseline of knowledge.
