I've cut docs and features in both FCP and Media Composer. They are both fine. It really gets down to preference and whether or not you know enough of the software to work around its inadequacies. FCP is popular for docs, because many times these start with the director. He/she may participate in the cut or start the cut. FCP has been easier for less skilled editors to pick up over Avid and therefore these folks gravitate towards that. If they hook up with an editor who likes FCP, then it continues. If they hook up with someone who prefers Media Composer, then a shift occurs.
