So I got the U1 working with Avid but I'm confused about the mounting procedure. I first set my ama setting to active bin and opened a test bin. Then I went to mount ama volume and couldn't see the XDCam disk on the desktop in the navigation window. On the desktop the XDCam disk has the proper icon and in named "Untitled". I think just pointing to the desktop and hitting open mounted the volume with 4 clips. I then deleted the clip to see what was going on but then nothing seemed to mount the XDCam clips into the bin again. I got a prompt about changing an ama setting in volume mounting to not check for changes before mounting volume. Finally I ejected the XDCam and re inserted it and the clips magically appeared back in the bin. Is this proper behavior? I feel uneasy about this but I know XDCam has been reported by many to be reliable these days so I must be missing something here.
Also in the bin info there is no disk label or tape name etc... so how do I accomplish a robust offline/online workflow? It's a 7 camera multicam project so I pretty sure I need to transcode to offline res for offline so it would stall out etc.... Am I really supposed to rely on ama XDCam magic under the hood for the online relink?

I wouldn't bother with a transcode, just Consolidate your media to a fast media drive and you won't have to up-res again later.  About the same space requirements as DNX36, and both 5.5 and 6.5 versions handle XDCAM footage as well as DNX.

Is the XDCAM transfer like the Sony Content browser with EX stuff? Sorry for all the questions I'm under the gun again today in virgin territory at this production company with no engineering support. Like the challenge but could do without the time crunch.

Then I will transcode to offline media for grouping etc and the offline cut. My understanding is that there is no need to add a tape name. Will this then later translate back to the original XDCam disks for online? I would hope so or what's the point.
