But the choice in Avid is Direct/5.1 Pro tools order or Direct/5.1 SMPTE Order. The direct works as the old fashion export as a QT Ref. As a Self Contained movie not ref export I tried Direct and I ended up with Stereo Tracks when in fact it was VO,Dia,Fx and Music stems. The fact that the newer Direct combined with 5.1 is probably where I'm confused. I've used some stereo tracks in the Avid timeline but haven't played with a 5.1 track, assuming there is such a beast at least I thought there was now.
If I'm understanding you correctly my timeline would need to have the type of track I want to export as mono, stereo or 5.1 but there is no provision for a true direct track for track self contained .mov export. This seems confusing or at least easily misunderstood. When I hear I can export multiple channels beyond stereo that to me means I can spit out all my discreet tracks to the QT. Sounds like that's not the case and my test would agree. Someone please tell me if I'm still not getting this.
