Re: [Avid-L2] Sepia, Hand-Cranked Plug-In

Thanks Steve and Dave,
Great resources; and Steve, I'll likely get your book when it's released.
The challenge now is time; and right now I'm diving deeper into After Effects.
I'll have a poke around AvidFx (and New Blue Titler, for that matter) in the coming weeks.

Thanks again you guys,

B

True.

The three filters you see in AvidFX, Benjamin, are just "categories" of effects, essentially.

If you want to apply a filter to an entire clip, use the Avid FX filter effect. If you want to add to a transition, use the Avid FX Transition effect and if you're going to add it to a Title or Matte Key (graphic) then use that option.

Once you do that, you can go into the Effect Mode and start applying effects from the library of effects in the upper left quadrant of the Avid FX UI, or you can add Filters from the menu that comes up when you go into the Avid FX UI.

Once you're in the UI, learn how to use it by googling some BORIS RED tutorials. My upcoming book describes this in pretty good detail if you want to wait until April.

Inside AvidFX you have all the plugins available that came with BCC, but they have to be applied inside AvidFX.  I work at one facility that did not buy BCC upgrades with their AVID upgrades, so had to learn how to use AvidFX to apply any Boris filters.

I found a great resource, as the AvidFX is not very intuitive initially.  Follows a link to the free tutorial videos from Boris and user EdiusMagic on YouTube.  AvidFX is also known as Boris Red.

Hi Terry and L2 crew,

I successfully downloaded and installed AvidFX v6.3 from Avid's Download Center.
I was able to use the Serial Number from the AvidFX installation DVD that came
with my MC v6 installation package. After installation, you have to verify that code.

However .  .  .
I don't see a specific film effect, or other single effects.
What I see are three effects which are the portals to the AvidFX/Boris application:
- Avid FX Filter
- Avid FX Title-Matte Effect
- Avid FX Transition
<avidfx.gif>

I'm guessing the separate effects that were mentioned
are a different installation and registration, and not included in the MC bundle.
Correct?

Cheers,
B

Hi Terry,

I see AvidFX v6.3 in Avid's download center:

I'm downloading it now . . . I hadn't noticed it was missing ;)
The next question will be if I need an activation code.
I'll report back.
