Subject: Re: [Avid-L2] OT: cloning USB Flash drives
ugh. not so easy: doesn't work w FAT32 flash drives, only mac formatted ones. will have to have someone with a pc to try i guess.
easy solution: disk utility. i expected it to be harder and not so close to home… ;-)

hi all
working on a big presentation for the upcoming CMJ convention and have an interesting file delivery: an hour + mpg file meant for playback from USB Flash drives that are handing out to everyone at the event. the drives with be branded by the major label client, and both the drive icon and file icon will also have the label logo. and this needs to work on both mac & pc. now, we have solved all of these problems: we have a FAT32 USB drive that boots on both macs & pcs with the correct icons showing. here's the big question: this flash drive will be used as the master to make all of the dupe flash drives, and i am having a hard time finding a utility that will make a clone / image file of the USB drive to ensure that the formatting with custom drive icon for the mac comes through on the copies. i know the pc formatting will come through because it is an autorun that resides on the key. with the mac you do it by doing a "get info" on the drive and pasting the logo in there, same with the file. but will that custom icon for the drive come through with the clone when mounted on a mac? i know the file icon will come across - it's baked into the file, but i worry about the drive icon. until i find a way to clone this drive i can't test that.
thoughts?
cheers
