Wow. I didn't know about the hack for the drivers. Thanks Dom!

This is Avid's own additional GPU based processing for certain FX.If the qualified packaged Avid drivers do not work, download the newer one from NVidia's website. Usually, this applies to newer mobile GPUs since their hardware/vendor ID may not be included in that particular release of the Avid driver package.Clarification about PC, Avid and GPUs.In general, Avid will work with any semi-modern consumer (GeForce) or professional GPU (Quadro / QuadroFX). This means you will get overlay video playback (Composer window and "Full SCreen Playback" are GPU bound versus CPU), acceleration of any green dot and OpenGL based FX.

Richard,That's the reason I asked. If I can add battery life buy using a new integrated GPU on the die (like they are using it on the new Macbooks), then it'd be something for me to consider. Of course, the Macbook is $2000 and I can build something that uses the same hardware but slower to my needs for about a grand less.
Anyway, I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the HP laptop simply because of the 12 months no interest if paid off in a year.

Well last week I asked for some help regarding picking up a mid range laptop that would run Avid (but not it's primary usage). I'd whittled it down to the Asus and HP models with Nvidia g750 graphics when I came across this.

I know Sager from a time long ago when I use to game a lot more. But The reason this caught my eye was the graphic processor - the Intel Pro Iris 5200. I haven't seen it anywhere else yet. And I understand it's supposed to be quite powerful. I was wondering if anyone had any information on how the Avid would react to this latest iteration of the Intel Graphics.
Thanks

None of which you are going to see with a new apple laptop. :-(
I don't know how well MC7 runs on the low end MBPs with Intel graphics, but if you price out the 15" with Nvidia card and decent RAM, etc. you'll find yourself close to the price of the incredible new MacPro @ $3000.
Compared to a premium-priced non-upgradable MBP, the PC laptops look pretty compelling again.
Not that I want to use one. But the media composer application doesn't care how thin your bezel is, or if you have an elegant UI. It wants graphic power.

Hey all.
I'm in the market for a new lappy and was wondering what people's
experiences were running MC on a PC laptop with an Intel Chip but AMD
Graphics inside. (_PLEASE_ no "get a mac" responses. It's not an
option) I know Nvidia is the requirement, but I also know people run
AMD. Frankly, I'd rather run Nvidia, but there seem to be more option
out there in my price range that use AMD for the graphics end of things.
The fact of the matter is that the system is not going to be used for
Avid very much if at all. It's primarily for a other work programs but
a back up in case I need it or have to edit away from my Workstation.
Thoughts?
Thanks
Mark
