I always avoid AMA for audio as well.  However, avid has added a whole pane in AMA settings for audio in v7, so apparently they feel its now an accepted workflow,

I have always been told to NOT use AMA for audio. It might work, as it can pass through QT, but it is not actively supporting BWAV metadata.

Try AMA and transcode?

 

I am trying to import a bunch of audio files but Avid will only import certain files in the folder.
