[Avid-L2] Windows and Servers and UNC names

Hi:

I've run into a bizarre problem. With Bob Zelin's great advice. I built a nice server, with an Areca RAID controller, space for 24 drives (right now it has 12 4TB drives in RAID 6), running on Windows 7, with 10 Gig E via fiber.

It's great, very fast, and reliable so far.

One of my PCs can easily write to shared (to everyone) folders on the server. The other one, a Resolve workstation on Windows 8 (that's what Blackmagic specifies….) reads from and copies files to the server just fine, but programs like Resolve (and others) can't write to it because it has a UNC address beginning with \\.

This means I have to have an internal RAID in the Resolve machine to render to, not too bad, but if I want to read from the internal RAID and write to the server, I can't do it.

There's gotta be a simple way to do this! Anyone?

Jeff

PS: Bob, Owen says hello.
