If you have six discrete tracks in Avid and disable one of the checkboxes in the export settings (mixdown audio tracks), you end up with 1 to 1 channel mapping.
Another trick is to export to XDcam, you also end up with each Avid track as a discrete channel. Then convert that to QT with the Sony tool.
(But no idea what codec the festival wants, so not sure if the last one is such a swell idea if they do not like MpegII...)

Subject: [Avid-L2] Surround QT ouput
A friend has a feature that was mixed in 5.1 surround and has been laid back to Avid.
A film festival is requesting a .mov output with 5.1 surround.
He has six audio tracks.
Is this possible? and if so how would he do it?.
