Editing tools are not where the money is. Storage, servers and pipeline software are where the action is.

FCPX is a tool for Apple to sell other Apple products. Other smaller vendors are piggy backing on that ecosystem, but FCPX sales are hardly a blip on Apple's radar.

Premiere Pro is a loss leader included with every other Adobe App whether you use it or not.

Avid's real money comes from large infrastructure production pipeline installations that we cannot even touch. Their new Interplay tech will allow something like 90 users around the world to work on the same sequence at the same time.

The editing tools are just a surface layer on a much deeper iceberg. Or a gateway drug that each vendor wants to use to hook you into the more expensive add ons.
