I had a similar experience last month when I updated one of my systems. I tried too many times to perform the update only to receive the same error you mentioned. What I finally determined was that the dongle updater file that was sent to me by way of email was bad/wrong/corrupted.
Fortunately I did download and save the updater file generated during the dongle upgrade process. For some reason I chose to use the updater file emailed rather than the one I downloaded. On a whim I tried the one I downloaded and it worked like a champ.
Never got a reason from tech support for this anomaly. If you downloaded the file you might try that, otherwise a call to tech support sounds like your best resolution.
