That was going to be my guess too. When I installed the compliant codec on older systems pre Ver. 4 IIRC those older systems that had to be Ver 3 or later, again IIRC, they would play HD material DNX without a half screen of green or in some cases they would play black. I thought the compliant codec would also play the older non compliant media as well but I don't know if I ever tried that specifically. I would think that the older media should be forward compatible I guess the test would be to try the media on a 6.5 or earlier system and see if it works there.
