I have cross posted this to the Resolve L but I figure this might be of interest to those who are migrating or incorporating Resolve into their workflows. Maybe someone can shed some light on this.
I'm working inn Resolve with Red Epic footage and I noticed the Camera metadata ISO is
800 and initially my project ISO setting was 320. Of course there is a
big difference when I switch between the two in the master project
setting in the Camera Raw section. I looked at the data in both the Red column, which I assume is the camera metadata and the Project column
and I matched the ISO to 800 and now when I switch between the Project
and Camera metadata the picture level shift is much less. I guess I
don't understand when the values in the two columns are identical how
come there is still a bit of a level shift? I went to the individual
clip I was looking at and then I could see 3 columns with Project, Red and Default and still the Project and the Red column are identical. What other
parameters are part of the camera metadata that I'm not seeing. I
checked in the Red Raw folders and I see digital_magazine.bin and
digital_magdynamic.bin. There are also some log.txt files and a projectinformation.txt. Nothing to indicate the use of RedCineX as far as I can tell. I tried unchecking the "use metadata curves" but it didn't seem to make any noticeable difference.
My inclination is to leave the settings set to camera metadata for the
entire project and color correct from there but I need to figure out
what I don't know about these Red settings.
