Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Mac 64 Bit Kernal or 32 Bit Kernal Impact?

No matter if you boot with 64 or 32 bit kernel, OS X, for the most part,
will allow a 64 bit application to address 64 bit of memory.

Booting in 64 bit kernel requires drivers to be compatible in 64 bit.
MacPro 1,1 (1st Gen) cannot boot in 64 bit kernel as the EFI is 32 bit
only (EFI is similar to BIOS in PC world).

My MBP Pro circa 2009 summer shows that the 64 bit kernel and extensions are Yes and I haven't had any issues that I know of but I have a software license on the box. I'm trying to figure out if the mac will know to run 64 bit software as 64 bit if the 64 bit kernel and extensions is not Yes. I was under the impression that the mac os would mix and match the 32bit software and 64 bit software and act accordingly but I may have misunderstood this behavior.
