Subject: Re: [Avid-L2] MacPro2009ish Ram Configuration?
Check Apple's supports pages as they will tell you the optimal way to configure your RAM. For some models it is better to put the bigger DIMMs in the first slots for example - but if the Mac sees all the RAM and doesn't complain that it is arranged badly the next time you start up then you are probably on to a good start.

I took the liberty of upgrading my bad Ram with 2x 2GB sticks. Now both Risers A and B have 1GB sticks in slots 1&2 AND 2GB Sticks in slots 3&4. I recall needing to match the pairs in the Risers. Is there any downside to have two different size Ram stick pairs in a single Riser. In other words would there be any advantage to making one Riser all 1GB and the other all 2GB? I've been running for years with one Riser with a pair of 1GB and a pair of 2GB so empirical data suggests it's okay but curious if I'm missing any subtle configuration issues.
