[Avid-L2] Re: Clarification: Media Composer SW/Dongle licensing and backwards compatibility

Hello there

Media Composer 7 bins are compatible in earlier versions of Media Composer. The latest maintenance releases (5.5.3.7/9.5.3.7, 6.0.4/10.0.4 and 6.5.3/10.5.3) contain fixes in order for these bins to open without inconsistent behavior.

There are a lot of new features in Media Composer 7 that will not function in earlier versions of the software, so in certain cases these newer features will not be present in the sequence when opened.

Media Composer 7 software licensing (Activation IDs) enables you to run one whole software version back. This means that if you purchase a Media Composer 7 license, you can authorize and run Media Composer 6.0.4/6.5.3.

Customers who wish to run previous versions of Media Composer software should uninstall their current Media Composer 7.0 and 6.x install Media Composer 6.0.4/6.5.3 or using the full installer (NOT from a patch installer), and then use their Media Composer 7 System ID and Activation ID when Activating the software license.
