>>>And as Terry mentioned today, what's the visual gain to the home viewer,
watching on a reasonably average size monitor (60" and smaller)? Are
viewers 6 inches from the monitor? Are they going to actually make monitors
so huge (for home viewing) that the difference between HD and 4K can even
be perceived?<<<
Unquestionably this is the key issue. It won't stop those that "just have
to have it" from buying a 4K set, but the reality is that for a typical
consumer viewing distance of 10' from the TV (and in many homes the WAF
means the distance is even greater) you need a 95" diagonal TV to even *
begin* to see the difference between 1080p and 4K (assuming 20/20 vision).
Not only is the cost of that large of a set beyond the range of the typical
consumer, the WAF is likely to make it impossible for the vast majority of
consumers.
