Since all drives are equal, but some drives are more equal than others, and
i have a late nite hunch.
Here is a Voight-Kampff test for something that has been nagging some people
using my products. I have NO idea what it exactly is about, and have never
been able to reproduce it, but it can't hurt to try to see if it lightens
your burden.
(Got it courteously from a user, forgot the exact source)
Unmount the drive. Go to Finder menu Go>Go to Folder and enter /Volumes/
You may see one or more aliases with the name of your external drive,
with or without and added number. Delete the unwanted aliases. Now mount the
drive again.
And, about the FW drives, :

Subject: Re: [Avid-L2] Woeful AMA links situation
Thanks Michael,
My circumstances match what you describe. Strange but misery loves company:)
I should add this from the Console I just happened upon… (repeated ad
nauseum)
"AMA: Unlinked RR207001 due to missing file on disk"
no files were deleted or moved, directory corruption? I dread thinking about
it.
The AMA linkage now seems so tenuous
