Have any of you used the remote grading option in davinci?
Essentially you have two copies of the media, local and remote. The remote grader controls both davincis in terms of transport control and grading. As only control data goes down the line it's very good.
This is also the way cinesync and tweakrv work in feature film shot review, all that gets sent is sync data and any annotations.
Not real time editing per se but maybe avid could build a 'monitor' device that syncs a remote copy of the rushes into a playback window... Bonus points if it can use more compressed media at smaller size...
Be nice to see if remote editing is part of davinci 10.
At first this may seem to defeat the purpose of sharing via the net but never underestimate the bandwidth of a FedEx box. It's absolutely the most efficient way to share rushes and similar data volumes. Screen sharing remotely simply has too much latency and stutter to compete with a cinesync session - we've tried.
A simple way is to use a decklink card as your iChat or Skype camera!
Best regards
Mike
