It all depends on your spindles, RAID controller and filesystem.
To get that sort of speed you would need multiple RAID controllers and a
lot of disks.
For example, a DVS Spycerbox Flex can do 5.5 GB/s but it is using three
RAID controllers with 48 disks spread over three very fast RAID
controllers.
A single LUN using a single RAID controller is doing pretty well to get
to 650MB/s with todays technology.

It just seems like Thunderbolt should be much faster. I would expect
