Shirley,
I have the 8 TB G-Raid thunderbolt drive as my primary editing drive now
- just got it a few weeks ago. I use it with a 2011 MBP.
I connect the drive directly to the MBP, and then loop through the drive
to my second monitor (an Apple Cinema Display using a TB => DVI adapter.
The monitor works whether the drive is powered up or not.
In general, Media Composer (V6) runs much snappier now - I haven't tried
a heavily layered timeline yet. I am starting to fool around with
Premiere Pro CS6 using media from the drive. Haven't tried FCP7.
So far so good - everything runs fine. Copying files from eSata drives
to the TB drive happens pretty fast.
The drive is reasonably quiet, but runs a bit warm to the touch.
The only drawback is if you need to give the drive to, for example, a
finishing house that only has Mac Pros - there are no other I/O ports
besides TB. I suppose you could use a TB => USB3 or FW adapter (haven't
tried that tho).
