Tsunami?

Most of the worlds drives are made in Thailand so it was actually the Thai floods in 2011 that pushed the prices up.

The tsunami wrecked the videotape factories instead...

It's just a big scam though, both seagate and wd posted record profits the same year as their flooding 'disaster'.

The prices doubled in Bangkok and have only gone back halfway to their preflood pricing.

Ssds meanwhile have dropped about 30% in the same time period.
