Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Loudness measurement

Trouble is with R128 / Calm, you cannot really measure everything during
editing.
There are 3 things to take into concideration, momentary, peak and overall
loudness.
The first two are easy to check on a meter on your master. But the overall
requires an analysis of the entire show.
(Or, if you play it back, the average loudness ' up to so far', as used in
live broadcasts)
But the momentary and peak problems hardly / never occur if you mix
normally without hitting / getting close to the ceiling.
Otherwise, a very relaxed brick wall limiter (app 6 dB higher as you would
in the old days) will do the trick.
In my experience a normal mix (to -9dB peak as we used to do) is on spec
with R128 -23 LUFS, unless you throw in compression.

Thus, IMHO an RT loudness meter is a relative useless tool. (But nice eye
candy for the client of course.)
Having a tool inside Avid to check In to Out on master output for loudness
would be useful. Until then i trust my tool.
(And for the record, win should be the same as mac.)
