An alternative is to follow Terry's steps (autonest multiple effects on a track above the clip) then Option/Alt-drag the effect icon for the outside effect from the Effect Editor back to a bin. This gives 'Effect (with source)'. There is no actual source in this case, just filler, but this is a conglomerate of all the effects applied and lets you apply multiple effects in one pass on to other clips. In the specific case of the OP, I'd have saved the PIP with source and then edited this in elsewhere, as required, then stepped into the PIP and replaced the original clip with a new clip.
