[Avid-L2] sync/transcode Q

Below is a clients workflow they are considering (We are doing online in Symphony) and were just asking if there was a better way to do this. I thought that it would be easier to use PluralEyes do do the syncing. Is that better than what they have? Either way, is it best to use AMA and do all the syncing before transcoding or should they transcode everything first and then sync? Is there a better way?

Thanks,

KEN

we have changed to recording sound on the Zaxcom Nomad, sending audio time code to the 7D and syncing that way. This has caused some disruption in the work flow.

We have video with audio timecode, and audio based on the same timecode.

We want to do two simple things:
1) We want to AutoSync the audio and video (to make subclips), then
2) AutoSequence the audio, video, and subclips to make a Sync Map timeline that shows all of the footage for that day spread over a sequence that essentially represents real time.

Because AutoSequence only works with START timecode, this is the only way we could determine to do this:
1) Read Audio Timecode for all video clips, which populates AUX TC1 with the audio timecode values
2) For each video clip, one by one, we copy the new value in the AUX TC1 column to the START column [by default, the START column for all of our clips is 0:00:00:00]
3) Run AutoSync on these video clips and the audio clips to pair both and create subclips.
4) Run AutoSequence on these video clips, audio clips, and subclips to create a sync map timeline.
5) Then for each video clip we go back and, one by one, change the START timecode column value back to 0:00:00:00.
