As much as I might poke fun at the new breed of editors etc.... coming up in a NLE only world where the norm is a firewire connection and a bnc is often a foreign concept I did see a bit of hope on my last day at NAB. I met a young man about to finish college at the Glue Tools booth. He had been coming to NAB since he was very young because his father is an engineer. We were talking about the workflow into avid with the Phantom camera and the arri and he mentioned that he had visited the booth near Sony where there are all kind of custom chip charts etc.... I can't remember the booth name but I'm sure someone on the L2 will know. At any rate the young man told me how fascinating it was to talk to the man who made the charts and how he gave him and perhaps others an hour long seminar on the various charts and how they are used for different purposes. That kind of enthusiasm really rubbed off on me. It was no surprise that he does most of the
camera shading for his fellow students. Finally a kid I wouldn't mind playing in my yard. ;-)
